This is day four of my sharing with you some of my Holiday Short Story Sessions, held for clients in November. These mini sessions (at under 30 minutes) are held in my natural light studio space in downtown, Vancouver. If you haven’t yet seen my previous posts, check them out on the blog under my Short Story Sessions category. The two siblings in this session are a brother and sister team. Ms. Elli and Mr. Myles. You know, I met Myles when he was just a few months old, which seems to be a (not so coincident) theme with these Short Story sessions. Almost all my clients who I photographed for this year had brought back their growing babies to be photographed again. And, I mean, why not? My Short Story Sessions are ideal for capturing milestone moments in a child’s life. This session included so much from these two lively and beautiful children. I have a thing for getting those somewhat stunned, not sure what to think of me, looks from the kids. And here’s one.
Myles is now able to walk. I love seeing babies and their serious faces as they try to keep their balance at the beginning stages of walking. Look at this guy looking so determined.
Another common theme with ALL of my sessions with kids is their amazingly beautiful eyes. Elli and Myles both got their father’s big, blue eyes.
So after some holiday themed photos, I suggested we get our dance on. Ms. Elli apparently likes the way her pink dress looks when she twirls and she showed me how to properly twirl. I absolutely loved these dancing shots. The seriousness in her face as she picks up her dress to twirl is killer. See the pucker in her face, her eyes and the ways her fingers hold the edge of her dress?
One of my favourites things to do is to capture children while they are in a moment. And Ellie was in a moment of true happiness as she danced. The photographs of her dancing have inspired me to capture more movement in my photographs. She’s a piece of art here with her beautiful red hair, her smile, the movement in her hair, dress and hands.
When I photograph children in my studio, I end up capturing quite a few images in a short period of time. Parents love ordering multiple images. The most favourite way for my clients to display their images is via my custom designed storyboards. Below is a sample of a 16×20 storyboard I created for my client. It’s the perfect way to display a number of images in a simple yet modern way (and you only have to place one nail in the wall!). My Short Story Sessions comes with a premiere session where I help my clients select their photos and I offer my advice on displaying images and provide storyboard ideas. Just one of the many things I like to do to help my clients get those photographs displayed.
